You reap what you sow
As parents we stress out a lot about whether we have done enough. I know I have. Over the years when facing challenges with my children I wonder if I even know what I am doing. You- know when you ask yourself am I messing them up?
It’s the day to day that gets to you right? Balancing responsibilities with your family as well as with your career and other community obligations always leave you in the state of questioning yourself.
BUT then you realize you reap what you sow.
Right now I am reflecting on my harvest and I am filled with GRATITUDE. I often speak of my daughter on the spectrum but today I would like to celebrate my first daughter- now young woman -who graduates this week from Spelman College.
She is not only graduating from a premier institution. She is graduating at the top of her class and achieved the status of Summa Cum Laude. She was also accepted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I am blown away! The journey has not been easy for her and I respect her for fighting for her voice, her space and independence.
No matter where she goes from here I am grateful that she shares some of my highest values:
- Hard work matters
- Perseverance will always pay off
- We receive grace daily to reinvent ourselves -and
- Kindness counts
Who runs the world- girls!
