What do I do when I have a free moment?

It is hard for many people to be alone. If we are honest, on some level we all want meaningful companionship or basic human touch. As a parent of a person on the Spectrum, you do not always get that time. You spend many hours with someone who has challenges communicating. You also spend many hours acting as a conduit to the world for your loved one. It can be exhausting. So when you have a break what do you do?

I don’t have a great answer for that question but most of the time I just try to breathe. The simple act of breathing helps elevate my space. I generally go to a place where I can look INTO the water and expand my mental palate. Quite often I am just trying to create a sense of calm to gear up for whatever lies ahead.

It is an intentional act to care for yourself!
