I had the opportunity to employ a person on the spectrum. It was one of the best decisions I made as a leader for several reasons. My employee was courteous and respected our climate and was an incredibly gifted and dedicated person. Often time we look at the outside and do not take the time to reflect on individual excellence. We can become so distracted by outward appearances and social interaction that we miss positive engagement. In my conversations with other employees they have found the same to be true. When you ask someone what they are good at and you give them a chance to demonstrate their skills you often have a rewarding experience on both ends.
