Life with a person on the spectrum is interesting, in part because you are very cognizant of your surroundings and the spaces you send them into. My daughter and I recently went shopping. I was amazed at the level of care from one store and the standoffish approach from another. Because I am not shy, I shared with the store why I needed their support, and shared that I should not have to ask for it. Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder have the same needs as everyone. First impressions are important. As we think about the importance and significance of the Americans with Disabilities Act, I am hopeful we can all agree that everyday life is important to all of us.
