Bright Spot!

Bright Spot!

As a parent you wait for the “moments” that shape your child’s development. This week was one of those moments where I literally saw our daughter shine -it was a complete bright spot!

As I’ve shared previously our daughter loves the theater. She literally loves everything about it. She sings all the time to the point of driving her father sister and I crazy. She particularly loves classical music and everything that can be categorized as a musical. I think she loves plays because they are predictable-they have a beginning, middle, and end- and all the spaces within the theater have a place.

She knows her lines-she knows every other actors’ lines-And I think she thinks that she is the Director as well.

Watching her for years growing up this environment is always a safe space for our family. We knew that when our daughter was on stage she was her very best self.

This week our daughter had the opportunity to finally put her skill set to the test. She decided to audition for a college play. Now it’s getting real. She had to prepare a three minute piece and sing!

When we arrived I thought she was way over her head. I became very nervous about how she would do. Would she panic? Would she rise? I didn’t want to see her disappointment. Little did I know she was ready for this. Watching our daughter independently navigate a real audition was a true joy. It was a reminder that all the years of Occupational Therapist, speech therapy, behavioral therapy, VE support and Extra-curricular activities matter. It was all for this moment and my family and I were very grateful to witness it. Shine on bright one!
