Evacuation Zone A
Hurricane Ian’s wrath wrecked homes and hearts. For those who were most impacted there are no words that will truly bring comfort. For those who were fortunate enough to miss this one- including my family- we MUST give thanks.
When these traumatic events occur we think solely of our loved ones. You want your family heirlooms, photographs, special gifts and most importantly a safe place for your family.
In our case we care for loved ones with physical and cognitive challenges. Staying was simply not an option as we contemplated the worst case scenarios.
We live in Evacuation Zone A-which means GET OUT! I was torn as to when I would leave and where I would go -BUT I was not ambivalent about leaving. While I love our home and the life my husband and I have built- nothing can replace humanity.
So many of my friends and loved ones struggle with this choice to leave or stay every year. The anxiety, lines, lack of basic resources and power are just a small fraction of factors we consider as Floridians.
Having said that- When the call comes to GO- I will LEAVE every time. Witnessing destruction so close to home is a constant reminder of the FRAGILITY of life. My sincere prayers to our southern neighbors rebuilding and reimagining their future.
