Help! I need somebody Help not just anybody!

I am reminded of the village often. Sometimes the village disappoints sometimes the village is reminded of their responsibility. Each day as I attempt to be my best self for my daughter, I am reminded that I cannot do this alone. I am reminded that I am only human, and I am reminded that I must rely on the good will of others.
This weekend I had a challenge. My daughter is a part of an organization called Jack and Jill, Incorporated. It is an African American Group created in 1946 for the sole purpose of providing educational opportunities for children. The activity selected for this weekend required my daughter to leave the house. My daughter has said for months, “I will not leave this tower-EVER!” On a day where I had several other obligations, I had no idea how I would coax her into leaving THE tower. Thankfully, I did not have to. Our new nanny, which we aptly nicknamed Mary Poppins magically encouraged our daughter to come out of her tower.
I was extremely nervous for many reasons: COVID, long-term isolation and navigating a new space. BUT- she did it- Because of the Village. Because I let go and allowed someone who cares to help. I am so grateful that I listened to the inner voice that yelled loudly – don’t say no.
As PROUD Aspy supporters we often are scared to let go. I just want to say to so many of you- it’s ok! Definitely worth her smile.
