Never give up! Yes- I am saying it again!
This past weekend my crew had the opportunity to fellowship with other families outside. It was a beautiful safe space -but still one that was difficult for my daughter to navigate. Although my husband and I have made significant attempts to socialize her during this pandemic the reality is it is extremely challenging to reacclimate her back into society.
Every day I wake up with renewed strength-understanding my charge to mandate to be patient, to be loving, and to be nimble. I am reminded often that is not my specific journey it is her journey. While I’m here to be a part of -it I will never know what it is like to be her.
I was reminded by others walking in the journey with ASD this week that we need to hear from them more. Their voices must be heard.
The Institute I am affiliated with had a social media takeover that allowed persons with ASD to be heard. I cannot say it better to them and I will certainly not try. It is my continued hope that we all step into the shoes of another and understand the path of persons with Autism -even if we’re not walking their journey.
Many thanks to Earth to Autism for what they do to elevate persons on the spectrum.
