Oh No! We forgot about the Holidays

When we were preparing to send our daughter to school, we thought about everything at least that was our belief.

We made plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We made plans for the New Year.

We made plans for birthdays and for weekends that were really long, BUT we didn’t make plans for Easter.

Unfortunately, I became ill the week before Easter. I did not know if I was going to be able to make it to see our daughter and I was hopeful that she would be OK. But the truth was, she was honest and said she would not be ok. She wanted to see her family.

Holidays are important for families but for persons living on the spectrum it is also important for routine. We did not think about the fact that our daughter’s routine would be off if we did not start new traditions. It was strange -the four of us not being together for the first time, but we made it work. Our daughter gave us a lovely reminder that gathering is important!
