Packing and Packing and More Packing

I am not one of those people who love to pack. That being said- even though I am quite an organized person I truly hate it and I do not use that word lightly. Traveling had become so complicated and with restrictions you have to make more of an effort to pack just the right amount. Well-all the rules went right out of the window over the past few weeks as we packed for our daughter’s transition to college. When I say my house was and still is -that is the under statement of the year!!
Our older daughter gave us quite a helpful list but it was still too much to manage. Now to the matter at hand. Our daughter with ASD has challenges managing items under ordinary circumstances. Asking her to help take on this task was like asking her to go into a concert hall without headphones- it simply was not going to happen. As we made progress I remembered what our therapist said a long time ago. Bite sizes friend! What she meant is that breaking down the tasks to a manageable state rather than conquering everything at once makes executive functioning more appealable to the Autistic brain. We still are packing but at least we are packing with a plan.
