Reset!
Well-summer is halfway over and we hit the reset button! It has certainly not been easy transitioning from home to face-to-face again but so far so good. Three weeks of ballet was intense and I did not think it could get any more challenging – but it did.
My daughter elected to go back to theater. I think it’s the perfect place for equity diversity communication critical thinking and emotional grit. As usual the theater did not disappoint. This week my daughter was challenged with doing improv. Improv? What is that! You see things got pretty easy and rote for my daughter during Covid.
Wake up,
prepare for class,
sit at a computer all day long,
watch the modules,
do the work,
Sneak your cell phone in and
do it all over.
Dance is pretty rote as well.
Go to class,
stretch,
follow the routine that you have learned for many years and
perfect it.
However improv reset her spirit. Why? She doesn’t like it-and more importantly she does not understand it. But it’s important to tweak the brain and challenge yourself. In moments like these- I feel the most growth and know encouraging her to step out of her boundaries will ultimately allow her to be her best self.
To my fellow ASD parents resist the temptation to say no and find a way to say YES!
