Have you ever heard the story Sam I Am? Well most parents have, but if you have not it is a story about a young boy who literally says NO to absolutely everything. The boy is repeatedly asked over and over again to try something new and actually enjoy it. However, he refuses to take the bait and instead says NO. Sound familiar?
I recently had this experience on steriods! My husband and I decided that it was time to force our daughter out of the house. She refused on every level but we did not give up. We took her to a local beach and with her puppy gradually encouraged her to get out of the car and get into the water. Initially and with trepedation, she went into our kayak with my husband and her puppy. After much “fussing” she told my husband he was “weighing her down and to please leave.” So he left! I lost my cool. I started panicking and worrying about her floating away.
Turns out I have quite a water baby. She was at complete peace and enjoyed her time with dog, the water and the sun. I learned alot about saying NO that day. And- Sam I am sums it up.
I do not like them,
Sam-I-am
You do not like them.
SO you say.
Try them! Try them!
And you may.
Try them and you may I say.
Sam!
If you will let me be,
I will try them.
You will see.
Say! I like green eggs and ham!
I do!! I like them. Sam-I-am!
Moral- Keep Trying with our kiddos and Do not give up!
