Self Care

I believe in self-care. It is the only way to take care of others. Recently, our pastor shared a message about this. I had never heard it in this manner because I had not focused on the importance of the spiritual aspect of self-care. The message was part about keeping your cup full because you can not support or help anyone if you are pouring an empty cup. I do not know about other mothers who care for children on the spectrum, but you often feel a sense of guilt that you have not done enough. Even though I think it is fair to say many of us do above the norm-you just had this feeling of wanting and needing to do more.

While I do not ever think that feeling ever really goes away – I do believe you can manage and regulate the stress by just simply engaging in self-care. Autism awareness month is not just for the person on the spectrum. It is for awareness! Take care of your spirit!
