What do we do about social services and connectivity under COVID? I have a child with ASD and a vulnerable immune system. She is fully aware of her disability and understands her health challenges, as well. As a new teen, it has been quite interesting to see how she shares what is in her beautiful mind. She is firm with her beliefs and convictions and has been candid with those who support her. As Florida is climbing in COVID cases, our options are becoming fewer. We have become a Zoom household. Therapy via Zoom, tutoring via Zoom, church via Zoom, camp via Zoom. We do take walks when we can and engage in exercise; however, the setback is real. When you have a child who needs social connection to combat social challenges, you need human beings. I do not have an answer for this, unfortunately. I appreciate technology at a time when I do not know what I would do if I did not have some method of bringing the community of care to my daughter. It is my hope that whatever our new normal is, we can connect soon.
