The Election

The Election

We are 3 days post-Election and I encourage you to maintain your mental health. Over the last few months, you run into people with significant anxiety, stress, anger, and frustration. Regardless of your preference or ideology- as a parent of a special needs child you are in the same position that you were prior to the election. You are still acting as a primary caregiver, you still struggle with meaningful respite, you likely get little sleep as you work tirelessly to care for your child and your available flexible income is still the same.

So, breathe and focus! Focus on the laws that impact your child in your state. Focus on the individuals at the municipal, county and state level that make decisions that impact you every day. Follow the school board in your county, attend meetings and write them. Let them know our voices matter.

Contact decision makers and hold them accountable. We need: assistance for technological assistance, therapists, and vocational support to survive COVID. We need educators to complete our Individual Educational Plans. We need support for corporate entities that hire or have programs for our children.
We need equity!
