Why Don’t You Treat Me Like I am an Adult

Our daughter is adamant that she is an adult now. In fairness she is right. She is over 18 and she has achieved appropriate milestones for her age group -however she is not yet an adult. When pushed, I explained to her that her sister had not achieved “adulthood” at age 18 either.
  • Do you pay your bills?
  • Do you rent or own property?
  • Do you have transportation?
  • Can you take care of ALL of your needs?
  • Are you independent???
Although she detests this inquiry it is important to have it. Setting expectations for adults on the spectrum steers them toward success. That is the outcome we all want.
